Many business owners find that their business is so dependent on them that they just can’t get away from it. All too often, business owners get caught in the trap of doing everything. They feel that nobody can do anything, or at least the “important” things, as well as they can. They obsess over the smallest details, and then wonder why their employees can’t seem to do anything without strict supervision. Systemising the business is another set of strategies that not only allows the team to perform more effectively and efficiently, it also allows the business owner to work on the business instead of in the business, making the business more productive and profitable.

To get started with establishing systems, business owners should begin documenting the process steps in regular activities, beginning with the most critical day-to-day activities in the business. It is important for the business owner to set the tone for not only WHAT they want done but HOW they expect it to get done. By implementing simple, detailed systems and processes in the business, they will be gaining leverage and productivity in ways that their competition will never understand or appreciate.
